Painted for the Esair Open Challenge - January 2007 Edition painting contest, which this miniature won (against one other competitor).

This is one of a special breed of Trog that lives near and inside volcanoes. Living in the desert, they are well-accustomed to surviving in the heat, so living near volcanoes is not a big stretch for them. This breed of Trog is a naturally a bit darker in color to better blend-in with their environment.

Originally, I wanted to add tattoos to this miniature, but it was taking me so long to get time to paint this miniature, I skipped that just to get finished.

This miniature was very difficult for me to paint. I am not sure if it was the musculature of the miniature itself, or if it was just me. I did not like the way that the skin turned-out the first time that I painted it, so I repainted it, and still did not like the result that I got. So I made-up this story for the miniature to have it make sense.
